Cryosurgery of the cervix is a treatment that freezes sections of the cervix. This is done to destroy any abnormal cells that are seen. Cryosurgery is done after a colposcopy confirms the presence of abnormal cells. It is performed in our office by Dr. Davis and is very similar to a colposcopy. Instead of taking biopsies, like during a colposcopy, liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the tips of the special instruments used to freeze the cervix. Regular activities can be resumed right after leaving our office. It is normal if you notice a discharge after the procedure for the first few weeks.
